Electric Bikes & Scooters

Are Electric Bikes Legal to Ride in the United Kingdom?

Yes, electric bikes are legal in the UK if they meet EAPC (Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle) regulations.

  • The motor must not exceed 250 watts.
  • The motor assistance must stop once the bike reaches 15.5 mph (25 km/h).
  • The rider must be at least 14 years old.
    If the e-bike doesn’t meet these standards, it can only be used on private land with the landowner’s permission.

Are Electric Scooters Legal to Ride in the United Kingdom?

Currently, electric scooters are not permitted on UK public roads, cycle lanes, or pavements.
They can only be used on private land with the landowner’s permission.
